AARP to host board game event
AARP Hawaii will host an afternoon of board games at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Kaunoa Senior Center in Paia.
The games include Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble, Bingo and The Game of Life. Trivial Pursuit and The Game of Life have been reimagined with trivia questions aimed at different generations and life experiences.
The free event aims to encourage socialization and intergenerational understanding. Space is limited, but participants are encouraged to invite up to two friends, family, kids and grandchildren. AARP membership or age is not required.

MACC to host 'Observe and Play'
The Maui Arts & Cultural Center will host an "Observe and Play Family Day" from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Oct. 21.
The event allows families to visit the gallery to see the installations of two exhibiting artists, Chenta Laury and Holly Wong.
Outside the gallery, families can make art pieces of their own to take home at several interactive maker stations, including hand-felting bracelets, wet-felting beads, mono printmaking with Hex Press and drawing activities.
The event is free.

Event set for cancer patients, caregivers
A free workshop for cancer patients and caregivers will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 21 at St. Anthony's Church in Wailuku.
Participants will have a chance to meet new friends, share their stories and discuss topics like hidden expectations and communicating tough feelings.
Lunch, coffee, tea and snacks are included.
The registration deadline is Wednesday and is limited to 30 people. The workshop is free, but donations are welcome.

Rinzai Zen Mission to hold rummage sale
Rinzai Zen Mission will hold a rummage, plant and food sale from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Oct. 21 at 120 Alawai Rd. in Paia.
The nonprofit mission will be selling plants as well as concrete and plastic pots; food such as chow fun, pig's feet soup, spam musubi and pronto pups; baked goods like andagi; pickled mango; and pickled vegetables, including takuan, sanbaizuke and kimchi.
Rummage items, including Japanese dolls and bisque figurines, will also be on sale.
The funds raised will be used to help maintain the mission's facilities.

Smart Driver Courses set for Kahului, Paia
AARP will hold in-person Smart Driver Courses in Kahului and Paia this month.
The course in Kahului will take place from 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Central Maui Adult Day Care Center at 11 Mahaolu St.
The course in Paia will take place from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Kaunoa Senior Center at 401 Alakapa Pl.
The course fee is $20 for AARP members and $25 for nonmembers. Payment is by cash or check only.

Christ to King Church to sell sweet bread
Christ the King Church will be baking and selling sweet bread for drive-thru pickup from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Oct. 21.
Tickets are $7 per loaf and are now available for purchase in the church office at 20 W. Wakea Ave. in Kahului.

'Stomp Out Hunger' 5K, 1-mile walk set
The annual Stomp out Hunger 5K race and 1-mile walk benefitting Hale Kau Kau will be held at 8 a.m. on Oct. 28.
The race and walk will begin and end at St. Theresa Church in Kihei.

Scholarships offered to Lahaina students
The Lahaina Strong Tutoring Scholarship program is offering 30 scholarships to students impacted by the Lahaina fire.
The scholarships will allow students to attend 32 hours of tutoring at no cost. Applicants must prove their Lahaina residency prior to the fire.

Haleakala Waldorf to host 'Night of Delight'
Haleakala Waldorf School will host its annual "Night of Delight" on Oct. 28 at its Kula campus.
An alternative to trick-or-treating for children ages 2-10, the Halloween experience will include theatrical skits and musical productions ranging from talking scarecrows to fire dancers.
Participants can wear friendly costumes -- no scary costumes and no full masks -- and should bring a bag to collect goodies as well as a flashlight. Free popcorn and juice will be provided.
There are two showtimes -- 4:30 p.m. for ages 6 and under, and 6:30 p.m. for ages 10 and under. Tickets are $15 for children and $20 for adults and must be pre-purchased.
High school students will serve a chili dinner as a fundraiser.
