Sentry donates $1M to Maui United Way
Sentry Insurance has donated $1 million to Maui United Way to provide mental health resources to children impacted by Maui's wildfires through the Sentry Malama Keiki Initiative.
Representatives from Maui United Way and Sentry unveiled the initiative during a livestreamed event last month in Kapalua. Kapalua's Plantation Course is the venue for the PGA Tour's The Sentry, formerly the Sentry Tournament of Champions.
"Maui is our ohana, a Sentry community, and in the face of the wildfires, we knew we had to help," said Sentry Chairman and CEO Pete McPartland. "The Sentry Malama Keiki Initiative is our response to the urgent need for mental health support among Maui's youth, especially in Lahaina and West Maui, helping them cope, heal and recover from the trauma of this unprecedented disaster."
The donation adds to Sentry's previous $1 million in contributions to aid wildfire recovery efforts, according to a news release.

Seabury Hall to host dance festival
Seabury Hall will host "Common Ground Dance Festival V" at 7 p.m. Dec. 8-9, at the school's 'A'ali'ikuhonua Creative Arts Center.
The festival is a collective of local youth-based movement arts programs in concert with Seabury Hall's dance and hula programs.
This year's lineup includes Seabury Hall's Jasmine Gorman, Evolution Dance Academy and Momentum Dance Maui. Performances will include jazz, hip-hop, modern and ballet pieces.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens and $7 for students. Admission is free for kids ages 4 and under.

Presentation to focus on coral restoration
Alika Garcia and Blake Nowack of Kuleana Coral will give a free presentation about community-based coral restoration at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, at the Maui Ocean Center's Sphere Theater.
The presentation is part of the Maui Nui Marine Resource Council's Know Your Ocean Speaker Series.
Kuleana Coral leads community-based efforts to restore coral reefs in Hawaii. Nowack and Garcia will share how the organization uses Community Based Coral Restoration Areas to address reef resilience and how Maui could adopt similar practices to protect local coral reefs around the island.

Delaware Day event set for Dec. 8
Maui's annual Delaware Day celebration will be held at 4 p.m. on Dec. 8, at Nalu's South Shore Grill in Kihei.
All First Staters visiting Maui or anyone who was born in, has lived in, worked in or went to school in Delaware are invited to attend. All attendees are asked to wear an article of clothing from Delaware.
Dolle's saltwater taffy will be provided. Nalu's South Shore Grill is located at 1280 S. Kihei Rd.

Club to host Alzheimer's Association coordinator
Alzheimer's Association Aloha Chapter Maui County Coordinator Shirley Kan will be the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Kihei-Wailea's meeting at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday at the Kihei Lutheran Church meeting room.
Kan will talk about raising awareness about Alzheimer's disease. A light lunch will be available for $7 per person.

Club to host Veterans Council president
Maui County Veterans Council President Janna Hoehn will be the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Kahului's meeting at noon on Monday at the Queen Ka'ahumanu Center.
The meeting will be held on the second floor of the center, across from Hawaii Family Dental and next to Fine Island Properties.
Hoehn will talk about the "Wall That Heals" exhibit, which will be on display Feb. 9-13 at the War Memorial Stadium.
