Book club seeks members
The Wailuku Hongwanji Mission Buddha Reads book club is seeking new members.
The club meets monthly on Zoom to discuss a book that has a connection to Buddhism or Maui.
Previously read books include "The Three-Year Swim Club: The Untold Story of Maui's Sugar Ditch Kids and Their Quest for Olympic Glory," "American Sutra: A Story of Faith and Freedom in the Second World War," "Lessons in Chemistry," and "For Whom the Bell Tolls."

Blackburn, Pescaia to perform Jan. 25
Local musicians Ikaika Blackburn and Kaulike Pescaia will perform a free outdoor concert at 6 p.m. on Jan. 25, at Hale Ho'ike'ike at the Bailey House Museum in Wailuku.
The concert is part of Lahaina Restoration Foundation's Hawaiian Music Series, which has been a tradition for 15 years in Lahaina, with performances held on the last Thursday of every month.
Attendees are asked to bring blankets, mats or low-back beach chairs. Free parking is available.

Ho'oikaika Partnership receives $175K grant
Ho'oikaika Partnership, a coalition that works to strengthen families and prevent child maltreatment, has been awarded a one-year, $175,000 grant from the Hawaii Community Foundation's Maui Strong Fund.
The grant will fund programming for direct services, provider well-being and educational outreach, according to a news release.

Nonprofit seeks foster parents
Maui Behavioral Health Resources is seeking foster parents for its therapeutic foster care program at Maui Youth & Family Services.
The program provides a family home atmosphere for youth ages 10-17 with mental health needs or who may be experiencing difficulties socially, behaviorally or academically. The program helps youth who are not able to receive care in their own home but can achieve stability and growth in an atmosphere where they can receive parental supervision, guidance and support, according to a news release.
Foster parents must be at least 25 years old. They can be single or married and rent or own their home.
Foster parents will receive free training and follow-up support, a daily monetary stipend when youth are placed in the home and access to a 24-hour support line.
To enroll in the program, potential foster parents must pass a criminal background check. There is also a home evaluation.
