Zack Fasi, a sophomore at Kamehameha Schools Maui, built a bus stop bench to help seniors waiting for the Maui Bus.

Although this bench is ultimately intended for everyone’s comfort, Fasi’s inspiration for the idea came from one particular occasion.

On a mid-afternoon in September, an elderly woman was standing, holding her bags and waiting for the bus in Kula. It was hot and she looked tired. Fasi was passing by and noticed her discomfort and decided to do something about it.

With the help of his dad, he designed, built and painted the bench. It was installed Nov. 2.

“I hope it lasts so everyone can use it and especially for tutu,” said Fasi.
