Josh Jerman of Hawaii Life Real Estate Brokers is again offering the Josh Jerman Maui Nui Scholarship to encourage college-bound students to use their educations to benefit Maui County.
Now in its 11th consecutive year, the scholarship program provides academic scholarships to college-bound students who will attend a full-time program at an accredited four-year college or university.
To date, the program has awarded more than $35,000 in scholarships to Maui, Molokai and Lanai high school seniors who have displayed a passion for returning to Maui County after college to contribute to the local economy.
Jerman has been a real estate broker on Maui since 2004.
He is the founder of the Josh Jerman Foundation and the Josh Jerman Maui Nui Scholarship and is a benefactor of many local charities and nonprofit organizations, according to a news release.
“I’m continuously impressed by the caliber of applicants each year, and even more impressed by those recipients who have now fulfilled the objective of the scholarship program, which is to return to Maui County as a productive member of the community,” said Jerman. “If I could give a word of advice to students: What sets a successful applicant apart from the rest is the depth and breadth of their personal essay responses.”
Last year, Jerman awarded three Maui County high school graduates scholarships of $1,000 each.
The recipients were Tyler Pascua of Lanai High School, Takayoshi Tsutsui of Seabury Hall and Nash Wuthrich of Baldwin High School.
This year, the scholarship program will award three high school seniors $1,000 each.
To apply, students must be a resident of Maui County, be enrolled in a full-time program at an accredited four-year college or university (for the 2015-16 academic year) and demonstrate financial need.
The application deadline is Feb. 20.
Recipients of the award will be notified on or before March 30.
