Library nonprofit has new president, bookmobile plans
John Tryggestad, a volunteer who has collected thousands of used books for three Maui Friends of the Library bookstores, has been elected president of the 104-year-old nonprofit.
Also on the the board are past presidents Dorothy Tolliver and Beth Ivey; Diane Logsdon, vice president; Rick Woodford, treasurer; John Clark, secretary; Kate Acks, Richard Buckley, JoAnn Carroll, Shirlene Cecile, Jeanne Dusseau, Sara Foley, Ed Heller and Cyndi Rodgers, Dorothy Tolliver, Flow Wiger. and Sharon Woodall.
Tolliver heads a committee developing a $300,000 bookmobile MFOL will gift to the Hawaii State Library System to bring books and wi-fi to communities throughout Maui. The bookmobile, scheduled for delivery in 2016, replaces a 20-year-old model and is being paid for from sale of used books.
A longtime board member, Tryggestad has collected thousands of used books for MFOL and was a key volunteer for the group’s modernization of the Lahaina Public Library, acquiring hundreds of boxes from local supermarkets and delivering them for packing books and taking them to and from temporary storage.
MFOL operates bookstores at Queen Kaahumanu Center, The Wharf Cinema Center in Lahaina and at the Puunene facility, staffed by volunteers.
