House candidates face off in Haiku
Candidates for the state House District 13 race, which includes East Maui, Molokai and Lanai, have been invited to a Haiku Community Association “Candidates Nite” from 6 to 8 p.m. July 28 at the Haiku Community Center.
The format will feature candidates answering questions posed by association officials on topics of concern to residents of the north shore area. There also will be time for the public to pose questions, a news release said.
The candidates in the race for the seat, which encompasses Paia, Haiku-to-Kaupo, Molokai and Lanai, include Democrats Lynn DeCoite, incumbent, and Alex Haller and Green Party candidate Nick Nikhilananda.
Doors open at 6 p.m. for potluck pupu and talk story with the main event getting underway at 6:30.
The meeting also will include brief updates on the reopening of Kalakupua Playground, the Hamakua coastal land purchase and other community topics. Haiku area residents are welcome to attend the free event.
