Hana woman honored by state Legislature
Teresa Shook of Hana has been honored by the Hawaii Legislature as a “Visionary for the 2017 Women’s March.”
State Rep. Lynn DeCoite and state Sen. J. Kalani English presented Shook with a certificate at the Haiku Ho’olaule’a & Flower Festival on April 22 “for her vision and dedication in the creation of the Women’s March and all of the unifying principals it stands for in addressing equality across the entire State of Hawaii and throughout the world.”
“The Women’s March turned into a worldwide movement,” said DeCoite, “and, of course, I think it’s awesome that it all started right here in District 13 — which is why I wanted to do this presentation here in the district.”
Shook is a mother of two, grandmother of four and a retired attorney. Her online efforts created the spark that led to the historic Women’s March on Washington the day after the Jan. 20 inauguration of President Donald Trump.
