Applications ready for Molokai school
The Kualapuu Public Conversion Charter School on Molokai is accepting applications for free prekindergarten classes.
The program is available to income-eligible families with children born on or between Aug. 1, 2012, and July 31, 2013.
The Hawaii State Public Charter School Commission administers the program. In 2014, the commission applied for a U.S. Department of Education preschool development grant, and Hawaii was one of 18 states to receive grants.
The $14.8 million, four-year grant has allowed Hawaii to expand its early-childhood education system.
Each classroom is limited to 20 students. Each class will be led by a qualified teacher and assistant.
For more information and an application, contact the charter school directly at 567-6900 or call Deanne Goya at the commission’s office at (808) 586-3775.
