Police recovered a stolen motorcycle from the yard of a 29-year-old Haiku man who was arrested Friday.
Bronson Bascar was charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and second-degree theft. His bail was set at $5,000. Bascar also was arrested on a no-bail warrant for a parole violation.
The KTM Enduro motorcycle was reported stolen between 4 and 6:25 a.m. June 21 after a man had parked the bike at his workplace at Hale Mahaolu in Kahului, said Lt. Derrick Lopez, head of the Property Crimes Unit of the Criminal Investigation Division. He said that a review of video surveillance footage showed two males loading the motorcycle into the back of a Toyota pickup truck and driving away with the motorcycle. Detectives learned that the Toyota truck was owned by Bascar, Lopez said.
On Friday morning, detectives went to Bascar's residence on Kahiapo Road and saw the stolen motorcycle and the Toyota truck in the front yard, Lopez said. He said Bascar was found in the residence and was arrested.
According to court records, Bascar has prior convictions for unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and possessing drug paraphernalia. In October 2013, he was sentenced to a five-year prison term for charges.
