Chinese acrobats entertain at MACC

A pair of performers (first photo) ham it up during a comedic act called "Musical Chairs" during The Acrobats of China Featuring The New Shanghai Circus performance at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center's Castle Theater in the first of two shows Tuesday. This is a traditional Chinese comedy with authentic Chinese folk music and two acrobats fighting over one chair. Another act (second photo), the "Silk Duet," involved a pair of acrobats flying high above the stage doing stunts to Beijing Opera music. The Acrobats of China Featuring The New Shanghai Circus has been in business for more than 20 years, bringing authentic Chinese culture and entertainment to North America. Hawaii was the first stop of more than 70 around the country on its current tour. A trio of contortionists (third photo) with the The Acrobats of China Featuring the New Shanghai Circus strike a pose Tuesday afternoon.
