A trail boardwalk replacement project is expected to close the last mile of the Pipiwai Trail in the Haleakala National Park Kipahulu District from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.
Helicopters will be used for the repair project.
If there are poor weather conditions, the work will be moved to Thursday.
Visitors will be able to walk the first mile of the 2-mile trail to the footbridge below the Bamboo Forest. Visitors will not be able to access the Bamboo Forest or the viewpoint for Waimoku Falls.
Hikers still will be able to access Makahiku Falls, a half mile from the Pipiwai Trailhead. Hikers also will be able to access the entire half-mile Kuloa Point loop trail near the Pools of Oheo.
The pools remain closed due to safety concerns from landslides.
