Schwager Davis Inc. ironworker Cass Via guides an equipment operator Tuesday afternoon who is lowering a section of track into place for the tram that will connect Kahului Airport to the new consolidated rental car facility building. The track, which will serve as a guide for the rubber-tired tram, features two automatic track switches and three crosswalks. Via said the crosswalk sections of track will automatically rotate, kind of like a rolling log, to disappear out of the way when the crosswalk is in use. The tram will shuttle people between the airport and car rental facility. The 1.5 million-square-foot rental car building is on track to be finished in October. After completion of construction, vendors will have six months to prepare their spaces for next year’s opening.
