The Maui News - Renovations to the Maui Humane Society's cat building and critter corner will close those facilities from Sunday to Nov. 14, limiting the amount of space the Puunene animal shelter has for felines and critters.
Current plans are to reopen the facilities Nov. 15, the Humane Society said.
The animal shelter will remain open for normal business, including dog adoptions, spay and neuter services and dog licensing.
Because of the limited space during the renovation work, the Humane Society asks those who find stray cats to call the animal shelter first to arrange for a time for the animal to be brought in during regular hours. Those who need to surrender their cat or critter should call the Humane Society first for help.
The number is 877-3680, ext. 3.
The limited number of foster homes will be reserved for animals that have nowhere else to go, the Humane Society said.
Adoptions of cats and critters during the work period will continue at the shelter. Adopters also may visit the Humane Society website at www.mauihumanesociety.org to see all adoptable cats and critters.
Adoptable cats also will be available at Petco at the Puunene Shopping Center at 50 Hookele St.
The Humane Society also is offering a special promotion to help clear the shelter for the upcoming renovation. Through Nov. 14, people may adopt any cat, kitten or critter for just $5.
The Humane Society is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week.
