The Maui News - A 1-mile portion of the Pipiwai Trail in the Kipahulu District of Haleakala National Park will be closed on Thursday for helicopter operations as part of a trail boardwalk replacement project, park officials said.
The closure affects the last mile of the trail. It will be shuttered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Visitors will be able to hike the first mile of the 2-mile trail to the footbridge just below the Bamboo Forest. Visitors will not be able to access the Bamboo Forest or the Waimoku Falls viewing area during the four-hour closure, officials said.
Hikers will be able to access Makahiku Falls, located a half mile from the Pipiwai Trailhead, and they have access to the entire half-mile Kuloa Point Loop Trail near the Pools of Oheo.
The pools remain closed during repairs to the park's the flash-flood monitoring safety system.
