Altres is offering temporary jobs to furloughed workers

Same-day pay option available for people impacted by federal shutdown

The Maui News

Altres, a state staffing company with an office on Maui, is offering temporary industrial work with the option of same-day pay for federal workers impacted by the partial government shutdown.

Industrial workers are needed on Maui and positions include mail sorters, rental car cleaners and transporters, janitors, landscapers, warehouse workers and construction jobs, Altres said in its news release Monday.

The program is available only to federal employees displaced by the government shutdown and will end when regular government work is resumed, Altres said.

The program also includes a $100 bonus for workers after their first 40 hours of work.

To apply, workers may call 877-5572 and are instructed to bring their federal ID to their appointment, at which they will fill out an application and have an interview.

Workers will not need to give traditional notice when their government jobs are reinstated and are free to return to their regular federal jobs, Altres said.

However, if the federal worker would like to continue to work on weekends or days off to make up for pay lost during the shutdown, Shani Silva, head of Altres Industrial, said, “we would be happy to help them.”

“At Altres, we connect hundreds of employees with employers every day and feel honored to help these federal workers here in Hawaii as the government shutdown drags on,” said Silva said.
