Airport tram making practice runs

A crew from Beachside Roofing installs a section of gutter on the Kahului Airport tram’s Departures Station as the tram pulls into the station during a practice run Tuesday morning. The tram connects the airport’s arrivals and departures gates with the $340 million, 1.3 million-square-foot consolidated rental car building scheduled to open May 15. The tram system features two, two-car trains or trams. Each car is named after a Maui County island and can hold up to 30 people. One tram is scheduled to run daily, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., with the other joining in during peak passenger hours, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
