WAILUKU — Two Kahului men have been indicted on charges alleging they sexually assaulted a girl over a two-year period.

Jerson Gonzales, 38, and Ricky Tabag, 24, have pleaded not guilty to the charges. Gonzales is charged with nine counts of first-degree sexual assault. Tabag is charged with eight counts of first-degree sexual assault.

Bail is set at $450,000 for Gonzales.

During a bail hearing last week, Tabag asked for a reduction in his bail.

He has a job and a place to live with his brother, said his attorney, David Wiltsie.

Deputy Prosecutor Iwalani Gasmen asked that bail for Tabag remain at $400,000.

She said he is a flight risk. His wife and mother live in the Philippines, where Tabag was born, Gasmen said.

She said the case involves multiple family members who sexually assaulted a minor at a Kahului residence while the child was between 11 and 13 years old.

Tabag, who appeared in court with an Ilocano interpreter, and Gonzales were charged with sexually assaulting the girl from July 2012 to May 2014, according to the indictments. Gasmen said there was an indication that Tabag was drinking alcohol during one of the sexual offenses.

Second Circuit Judge Richard Bissen set Tabag’s bail at $200,000.

If he posts bail to be released from jail, Tabag was ordered not to consume alcohol or illegal drugs and to report for random drug testing.

Both he and Gonzales were ordered to have no contact with the girl and to abide by an order for protection that expires in February 2023.

A July 1 trial for Tabag is set in 2nd Circuit Court.

Gonzales’ trial is set for July 24.
