Starting Friday and continuing through the Cinco de Mayo weekend, police traffic officers will conduct sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols at various locations to look for impaired drivers.
Police will take a zero-tolerance approach to impaired driving, according to a police news release.
"Our goal is to promote voluntary compliance of all traffic laws and reduce motor vehicle crashes on our roadways," said Lt. William Hankins, commander of the police Traffic Section.
Police recommend that drivers plan a safe way home before they start celebrating and designate a sober driver before drinking. It's recommended that people who have been drinking use ride-sharing services or call taxis or sober friends and family members.
Anyone who sees an impaired driver on the road is asked to call police to report it.
