Pools of Oheo reopen
The Pools of Oheo in Haleakala National Park’s Kipahulu District have reopened after issues with the stream monitoring system caused a closure three weeks ago.
Park officials announced Wednesday that necessary software updates and modifications have been made to correct the issues with the system, which sounds an alarm when flash flooding is imminent. The pools had been closed since April 9.
Because the streams from the Kipahulu rainforest drain through the Pools of Oheo into the ocean, flooding can occur at any time. For safety reasons, park visitors should stay out of closed areas, officials said.
