Woman pleads guilty to tax fraud

A former tax preparer pleaded guilty Thursday to 14 counts of helping prepare false 2014 state tax returns.

Nicole Rapoza, 29, of Lahaina entered the pleas as part of an agreement dismissing 12 other counts of aiding and abetting the preparation of false and fraudulent tax returns.

A plea agreement recommends she be sentenced to four years’ probation and up to one year in jail. She agreed to repay up to $24,574 in restitution to the state.

Rapoza is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 9 by 2nd Circuit Judge Richard Bissen.

The investigation was coordinated by the state Department of Attorney General and Department of Taxation.
