Waterline upgrades at park to begin

The Maui News

A seven-month waterline upgrade at the Kipahulu District of Haleakala National Park gets underway June 18 and will cause some traffic delays.

The park service will be replacing about 4,800 feet of aging water pipes with a new, longer-lasting delivery system, said a Haleakala National Park news release Monday.

There have been water disruptions in the past few years.

The work will run from the park water source, along Hana Highway to the Kipahulu Visitor Center and campground.

The work, which will run through January, will occur weekdays during normal business hours. During construction, there could be occasional traffic delays due to heavy equipment working along the road, the park service said.
