County seeks public input on what to do with Maui Lani lots
The Maui News
Maui County is seeking public input on options for 50 Maui Lani lots that the county acquired through a settlement with a developer in 2011.
A community meeting moderated by the Department of Management will be held at 5:30 p.m. on July 23 at the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center in Wailuku.
The 50 lots are in the The Fairways at Maui Lani subdivision. Options include partnering with a developer to build homes or selling the lots and reinvesting the proceeds in acquiring land well-suited to a multifamily project.
For more information on the meeting, call the Department of Management at 270-7855.
The lands were acquired as part of an $11.7 million settlement with developer VP & PK LLC in a dispute over fill and grade heights for homes more than a decade ago. County Council members had considered selling the lots with affordable housing restrictions, but the proposal failed.
At 9 a.m. on July 25, the council’s Economic Development and Budget Committee also will hold a meeting to discuss the possibility of a county-run, affordable housing pilot project on the lots.
