Metallic balloon causes power outage in Kahului

A metallic balloon touching power lines along Wakea Avenue caused an hour-long outage for customers in the Kahului area on Sunday.

Maui Electric Co. spokeswoman Shayna Decker said about 1,330 customers lost power at about 2:45 p.m. Sunday due to the balloon. Power was restored to all customers by 3:45 p.m.
