A 10-year-old Maui boy was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being struck by a car in Hana on Wednesday afternoon, according to a fire official.
At 4:27 p.m., crews received a call about a boy who'd sustained a head injury after being hit by a vehicle in the area of Uakea Road and Keawa Place, Fire Services Chief Rylan Yatsushiro said. Police took the boy to the East Maui Medical Clinic nearby to be treated and evaluated by the doctor on duty. Engine 7 personnel from Hana arrived at the clinic and assisted medics and the doctor with patient care.
The boy was later transferred to a fixed wing transport plane at the Hana Airport and flown to Kahului, where he was taken by medics to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition.
