High-surf advisory for south shores

A high-surf advisory has been posted for south-facing shores of Maui County through 6 a.m. Thursday, the National Weather Service said Monday.

Surf is expected to reach 10 to 14 feet this afternoon through Wednesday and then subside for the rest of the week as a large south-southwest swell moves in. The surf may reach warning levels at its peak, the weather service said.

Beachgoers can expect strong breaking waves and shore break with longshore and rip currents.

The forecast for today is mostly sunny and breezy with northwest winds up to 20 mph. The high temperature is expected to reach 90 degrees with overnight lows of 70 degrees.
