Business planning classes forming
Maui Economic Opportunity's Business Development Program will present its 36-hour Core Four Business Planning course beginning Sept. 5.
The classes will be from 6 to 9 p.m. two days a week through Oct. 11. All sessions will be held at MEO's Family Center at 99 Mahalani St. in Wailuku.
One-hour introductory classes will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. today at MEO's Family Center and from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the Maui County Business Resource Center in Maui Mall.
Registration is required for the six-week series and can be done at the introductory classes or from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at MEO's Family Center. There is a $300 fee to take the course. Financial aid is available. For more information, call 249-2990.

Workday set at Maui Farm
The Maui Farm will host a community work and volunteer day from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at 100 Ike Drive in Makawao. The plan is to plant sweet potato, taro and banana. The project will end with a light farm-to-table lunch and farm-grown iced tea and lemonade.

Session about certification
Hospitality instructors Charen Kepler and Lauren Blickley will lead an informational session about obtaining a Certificate for Customer Service in Hawaii from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday in Room 106 of the Laulima Building at University of Hawaii Maui College. Pupu and beverages will be served.
UH-Maui College's Office of Extended Learning and Workforce Development is accepting applications for the certificate, which was developed by Kapiolani Community College and the Hawaii Tourism Authority. The foundation of the program is based on the Native Hawaiian culture to develop practical skills that help provide a gratifying and memorable guest experience for the community and global customers.
This certification is designed for employees of Hawaii's visitor industry. This certification, normally valued at over $1,200, is now $500 to qualified employees for a limited time.

Medical cannabis talk in Kahului
Pono Life Education will present "Intro to Medical Cannabis" at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Pono Life Education and Resource Center, 415 Dairy Road in Kahului. Elaine Slavinsky, the education center's director, will lead the discussion.
Admission is free and ADA parking is available.
