Windy day made for kite fest

Olivia Busch, 4, of Wailuku flies her hand-decorated kite during Saturday’s Kite Festival hosted by the Japanese Cultural Society of Maui at Keopuolani Park in Kahului. Japanese Cultural Society of Maui President Deron Furukawa said the fourth annual event drew the largest crowd and also benefited from the strongest winds in its history.

: Kanaha Beach Park was not very busy Monday morning. Mayor Michael Victorino would like to eliminate commercial activity on Sundays and holidays. This includes those holding county Commercial Ocean Recreational Activities permits. There are 17 designated sites around Maui where the permit holders may operate, such as Kanaha Beach Park.
