Charges filed in parking lot shooting
Manuel Nunes Jr. was charged Friday with second-degree attempted murder in connection with the early-morning shooting Thursday near the old Safeway parking lot in Kahului, according to police.
Nunes, 35, also was charged with four firearms violations and first-degree reckless endangering.
He was being held on $500,000 bail Friday.
Also charged Friday in the incident was Blossom Edayan Nunes, 36. She faces charges of hindering prosecution, tampering with evidence and place to keep ammunition. She was being held on $5,000 bail Friday.
After an altercation between two homeless men in the Hoohana Street side of the old Safeway around 4 a.m. Thursday, Manuel Nunes Jr. allegedly used a 12-gauge shotgun loaded with birdshot to shoot the victim in the upper back and in the back of his head, police said. The victim survived but was hospitalized.
