The 15th Annual Lahaina Town Clean Up will be held from 9 a.m. to noon.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. at Kamehameha Iki Park, where instructions and equipment will be distributed to participants.

Following the cleanup, lunch and water will be provided to volunteers.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves and a reusable water bottle.

In South Maui, Hawaiian Paddle Sports and Hawai’i Mermaid Adventures will hold a cleanup at  Po’olenalena Beach Park in Wailea.

It will be from 8:30 to 11 a.m. on Sept. 21. Check in at Po’olenalena Beach Park. Look for the Hawaiian Paddle Sports and Hawai’i Mermaid Adventures tents and flags. Free lunch and event T-shirts will be provided to first 50 volunteers by Pau Maui Vodka and Outrigger Pizza. 

All cleanup supplies will be provided. Participants should bring a reusable water bottle and sun protection.

The Pacific Whale Foundation will be holding and joining various cleanups around the island.

One will be at Kahului Harbor from 8 a.m. to noon, and includes lunch at 11 a.m. It is a partnership with Malama Maui Nui Get the Drift and Bag It campaign. Wear closed-toe shoes and sun protection.

Another cleanup will be from 8:45 a.m. to noon at the Ahihi Kina’u Natural Area Reserve in Makena. There is a hike through sharp lava rock. Closed-toe shoes mandatory, and long-sleeved shirts, pants and hats are recommended. Space is limited.

PWF is also participating with the Lahaina Town Clean Up.

The Maui Huliau Foundation’s leadership program will hold a beach cleanup, starting in front of the Hawaiian Canoe Club site at Hoaloha Park and then cleaning the beach area of Kahului Harbor. The cleanup will be from 9 to 11 a.m.

It will be held in collaboration with “Climate Strike” events, which focus on ending the age of fossil fuels for the benefit of the climate.

Volunteers for all the cleanups on Sept. 21 can download the Clean Swell app to keep track of the debris removed during the cleanup. The data will be added to the International Coastal Cleanup’s marine debris database. Results from the data help inform policy and debris-removal efforts.

The Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup Day is an opportunity for residents and visitors to join in a global effort to remove litter and debris from the coastal environment, according to announcements of these events.
