Old Misaki Hotel on Molokai burns

A fire early Tuesday at the "Old Misaki Hotel" on Molokai caused major damage, according to the Fire Department.

Kaunakakai, Hoolehua and Pukoo fire companies responded to the fire reported at 6:03 a.m. on Kamehameha V Highway in Kaunakakai, arriving to find the single-story, multiunit structure on fire along with a small brush area.

The building, which is about a quarter-mile west of Hotel Molokai, was unoccupied. No injuries were reported.

The fire was extinguished at about 9:20 a.m.

Major damage was reported to the structure and contents of the store both inside and outside, according to the Fire Department. Damage estimates weren't available.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
