Cyclists’ demonstration aimed at safety

Cyclists draw attention to Hawaii’s Safe Passing 3 Foot law by cruising through Spreckelsville on Hana Highway with foam pool noodles attached to their bikes during Maui Bicycling League’s North Shore Noodle Ride Saturday morning. The noodles demonstrated the 3 feet of separation motorists are required to give cyclists when passing after the 2018 passage of Act 47. “We’re trying to show motorists what that means,” said Maui Bicycling League ride leader and safety and education organizer Kelli Lundgren (front of pack). “We’re trying to find a safer way to share the road.” She said there have been two Hawaii bicyclists killed in collisions this year, and a total of 75 deaths when including pedestrians and moped riders.
