Always time to look for something good to read

First photo: Rhonda and Chuck Peck of Austin, Texas, look through free periodicals while shopping at the Maui Friends of the Library’s Puunene Bookstore one afternoon last month. The couple said it was their second visit to the Puunene store and they also planned to stop by the MFOL stores at Queen Ka’ahumanu Center in Kahului and The Wharf Cinema Center in Lahaina.

Second photo: Maui Friends of the Library volunteer Helen Domer (left) looks over boxes of books donated by Haiku’s Wyonette Wallett last month in Puunene. Wallett said the books were from her collection and her cousin’s. “I love to come here,” Wallett said. “If I have moment, it’s like looking through a treasure box of different stories.” The MFOL stores are run by volunteers and feature all-donated books, with most selling for a quarter. Every child that visits gets a free book. Puunene staffers said the organization is looking to add volunteers to its ranks.
