Grand Wailea Foundation set

1 min read

The Grand Wailea Foundation, set up by the owner of the Grand Wailea Maui, The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua and Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu, was launched last week to assist the South and West Maui communities.

BRE Hotels & Resorts seeded the foundation with a $75,000 gift to advance the foundation's work in education, historic and cultural preservation, environmental stewardship and community programs, according to a news release.

In addition to the lead gifts, the foundation will be supported through optional contributions by guests at Grand Wailea and fundraising events planned in its inaugural year. In the past five years, the resort has donated more than $4.5 million in service, cash and in-kind gifts -- 75 percent of which has been donated to local organizations.

The foundation's initial gifts to area nonprofits and organizations will be awarded by the Grand Wailea Foundation on Sunday at the resort's annual tree lighting event. For more information on how to apply for grants and scholarships, see grandwaileafoundation.com.
