Maui United Way, which will begin accepting applications for grants online at the end of January, will be extending its funding cycle from two to three years.
The organization gathers donations, especially from local businesses, and doles out the money to nonprofits in Maui County in areas of critical need in the community -- education, income and health.
Request for Proposal and Criteria currently are available for viewing on the homepage of Maui United Way at www.mauiunitedway.org by clicking on the "Our Work" tab. The documents also can be obtained by contacting Makana Nunes at 244-8787.
Online applications for the Community Impact Grant will be available from Jan. 28 to March 4. Notifications of grant awards will be made about June 3. The funding cycle starts July 1.
Health and human service nonprofit agencies with federal 501 (c) (3) federal status are urged to apply for the upcoming funding cycle. All grants are capped at $30,000 per funding year.
In July, Maui United Way reported raising just over $890,000 for this year, which went to 33 health and human services programs in Maui County.
The agency also is beginning to solicit community volunteers for Maui United Way's Community Impact Grant Allocation selection process. The group of volunteers will determine the amount of funding awarded to the nonprofit agencies.
