BOE to discuss Hawaiian immersion

Members of the public will be able to share their concerns and possible solutions for Hawaiian immersion programs at a state Board of Education meeting on Feb. 4.

The meeting will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. in Room 144 of ‘Ike Le’a, the University of Hawaii Maui College’s science building. Board Chairwoman Catherine Payne and board members Kaimana Barcarse and Kili Namau’u will be on hand to listen to Hawaiian immersion and other general concerns.

Board members want to understand how they can support the immersion community and what they can learn about immersion education in the public schools.

Those requiring special assistance or services, such as a sign language interpreter, should call (808) 586-3334 at least three business days before the meeting.

To contact the BOE, email boe_hawaii@notes.k12.hi.us, visit boe.hawaii.gov or call (808) 586-3334.
