Cemetery vases need to be claimed

A storage shed full of cemetery vases from Maui Veterans Cemetery in Makawao await pickup Wednesday afternoon. The vases — made of brass, bronze and plastic — were extras that were removed during renovations to the cemetery and are waiting to be claimed by family members. Calls for the vases will be taken through Friday. Any unclaimed nonbronze vases will be disposed of; extra bronze vases will be saved and donated to families of veterans. Family members should call the cemetery at 876-4534 to schedule a time to pick up extra vases that belong to them. When calling, have the full name of the deceased and, if known, where the gravesite is located. Because it may take a day or two to process a vase return, walk-ins are discouraged.
