A man who appeared to be intoxicated in the drive-thru of a Wailuku restaurant early Tuesday was fined $1,000 for driving under the influence of alcohol, according to court records.

Ryan Torino, 40, of Wailuku also was ordered to perform 300 hours of community service and pay fines after he pleaded no contest to the charge Tuesday afternoon in Wailuku District Court.

Police were called to Jack In The Box on Lower Main Street at 1:16 a.m. Tuesday to investigate a report that Torino appeared intoxicated and was verbal with employees while he was in the drive-thru lane, according to police. Police reported Torino had slurred speech and red watery eyes and smelled of liquor. He couldn't complete field sobriety tests and was arrested, police said.

A disorderly conduct charge against Torino was dismissed.
