Michael Stubbs has been appointed head of school at Kihei Charter School, the school’s Governance Board announced Monday.
He also will serve as acting high school director until the position is filled.
Stubbs replaces former Head of School John Colson, who has been with the school for several years. He now will serve as an educational consultant for the school and assist Stubbs as needed, the Kihei Charter news release said.
Born and raised on Maui, Stubbs received his Bachelor of Arts in Spanish at Ithaca College in New York and his Master of Arts in Teaching: Secondary Education at Manhattanville College in Purchase, N.Y.
He then taught for seven years in New York City middle and high schools before returning to Maui. He is married and the father of two boys.
His educational goals will be to create “diverse and innovative learning environments for everyone,” instill “a growth mindset” in the school culture, maintain an instructional approach “so that interests and passions help to drive education,” and prepare students “for productive and successful lives beyond Kihei Charter School.”
The public charter school also currently is accepting applications for all faculty positions. Those interested in applying for a position may send their resumes to Kihei Charter School HR, P.O. Box 1098, Kihei 96753.
