Kahului sets record on Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day may not have been the only reason Maui residents were feeling the heat Friday, as Kahului reached a record-high temperature of 87 degrees.

The temperature broke the old record of 86 degrees set on Feb. 14, 2018, according to the National Weather Service.

The last time Kahului broke a heat record was Dec. 30. After months of record-setting temperatures well into December, the island finally experienced cooler weather and plenty of wind and rain that even led to some snow atop Haleakala.

Isolated showers are in the forecast for Kahului today, though skies will be mostly sunny with a high near 84. Conditions will be breezy, with a northeast wind around 17 mph and gusts up to 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
