A 46-year-old Lahaina woman was arrested Sunday night for allegedly assaulting a man, who suffered life-threatening injuries, police said.
Lahaina patrol officers, assigned to investigate suspicious activity at 7:23 p.m. at McDonald's at 885 Wainee St., found the victim lying on the ground with injuries, police said. The woman was seen walking in and out of traffic in the middle of the road, screaming at passing cars and refusing to get out of the roadway, police said.
Investigation showed the woman had assaulted the victim before officers arrived, police said.
The man was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition, police said.
The woman, who was initially arrested for disorderly conduct, remained in custody Monday and was being investigated for first-degree assault, police said.
