Four new cases of COVID-19 have been reported on Maui as of noon Sunday, bringing the county’s total to 84 as the cluster of infected staff and employees at Maui Memorial Medical Center rose to 31 over the weekend.

Statewide, there were 13 new cases, including five on Hawaii island, four on Maui, two on Oahu and two on Kauai. No new cases reported in Molokai, which remains at two cases, or Lanai, which has yet to have a case.

As of Sunday, there were a total of 499 cases — 350 in Honolulu County, 84 in Maui County, 39 in Hawaii County and 21 in Kauai County. Two residents have been diagnosed outside the state and residency is unknown in three cases.

The state Joint Information Center also said that a total of 31 health care workers and patients are under investigation as part of the cluster of COVID-19 cases at the hospital. Initially 15 workers and four patients tested positive from mid-March till Tuesday. Since Wednesday, an additional 90 health care personnel and 36 patients have been tested, with seven staff and five patients testing positive, and more results pending.

By Monday, the hospital will have notified 194 patients who received care at Maui Memorial by affected workers, the information center said. The state Department of Health is assisting with telephone outreach, and testing is ongoing.
