Paddlers honor victims of police brutality, racism
First photo: A peaceful paddle out off Launiupoko Beach Park on Sunday drew about 300 people, who honored the lives of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breona Taylor and others who lost their lives at the hands of police brutality and acts of racism. Surfers gathered from around the island, formed a circle and tossed flowers into the sea. They stayed until sunset. The event was organized by Bailey Rebecca Roberts, a photographer, who created the flyer that drew surfers to the West Maui beach. “I just wanted to break that excuse cycle of nonaction,” she said.
