Third day of record heat felt at airport

The 91 degree high Thursday at Kahului Airport tied the record for the day — the third straight day of record-breaking or -tying heat.

Thursday’s high tied a record set during last year’s heat wave during the summer and fall.

The 92 degree temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday at Kahului Airport broke records of 91 degrees set in 2014 and 2019 respectively, the National Weather Service said.

A high-surf advisory for south-facing shores of all islands was extended to 6 a.m. today. Wave heights are expected to reach 6 to 8 feet.

The forecast for the central valley today is sunny and breezy with high temperatures ranging from 83 to 91 degrees. Overnight lows should fall to 64 to 71 degrees.

Easterly winds are expected to blow 20 mph.
