WAILUKU -- A Wailea woman is charged with attempted assault for allegedly swinging a hammer at a man after an argument last month.
During her arraignment Wednesday in 2nd Circuit Court, Kathy Koebberling, 56, pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted second-degree assault and two counts of fourth-degree criminal property damage.
She was arrested May 11 after a woman reported being in her significant other's vehicle in the 7200 area of Makena Road in Wailea when Koebberling approached and they argued, said Deputy Prosecutor Joanne Hicks. She said the woman told Koebberling to leave before she returned and used a sickle to slash a tire of the vehicle.
Then Koebberling began swinging a hammer at the woman's significant other, Hicks said.
After Koebberling was arrested, she damaged a police officer's phone, Hicks said.
Hicks said Koebberling has 25 nonfelony convictions, including eight for contempt of court, four for failure to appear, two for driving without a license, two for impaired driving and three for fourth-degree theft. Koebberling also has a history of substance abuse, mental health and anger management issues, Hicks said.
Judge Rhonda Loo ordered Koebberling to stay away from the victims and their residence.
Koebberling was being held in lieu of $7,000 bail pending a court hearing Friday.
