Due to physical distancing guidelines because of COVID-19, parents were not permitted to sit in the bleachers. Instead, the players spread out on the bleachers when it was their team’s turn at bat. The game was one of the first sanctioned competitions of any kind on Maui since sports were shut down by the global coronavirus pandemic in March.

A single-engine Cessna flipped over after a hard landing at Kahului Airport on March 17. According to a report issued June 29 from the National Transportation Safety Board, student pilot Paula Whiteley of Makawao failed to avoid the wake turbulence of a heavy jet while approaching the runway, which resulted in the loss of control.
