Officials pull plug on ‘Temptation Island’

The Maui News

A day after it was revealed that the reality TV series “Temptation Island” was going to be shot at the Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort over the next two months, the plug was pulled on the project.

Maui County Mayor Michael Victorino said Thursday that after talking with the production company, the resort, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union representing hotel workers and the county film office, a joint agreement to delay production of the show was made.

“This was a very difficult decision due to the financial impacts to our local union film workers and hotel workers as well as to the film production company,” the mayor said in the announcement. “However, considering the recent surge in cases on our island, all parties agreed to delay the show before production began.”

Victorino on Wednesday confirmed that the reality show would be filming on Maui after the green light from the state. Cast and crew were anticipated to arrive this weekend, and filming was slated until mid-October. The state had necessary COVID-19 protocols in place, and cast and crew were expected to be living and filming on site, not leaving the hotel grounds.

During his news conference Wednesday, Victorino added that he wasn’t a fan of the project.

“I’m not too keen about it,” he said. “In fact, I’m not very happy about it, but it’s been approved on the state level.”

The American TV series shows couples who are willing to put their romantic relationships to the test.

Starting at $4.62/week.
