Three years ago, on Aug. 8, 2017, Maui Grown Therapies made history by opening Hawaii's first state-licensed medical cannabis dispensary. To celebrate its third anniversary, the company has made another cash donation to Maui Food Bank, surpassing $15,000 since the charity's coronavirus response began in March.

"When we opened three years ago, our company started a new tradition -- our patients and employees give to community causes and we match their donations" explained Teri Freitas Gorman, MGT's director of community relations & patient affairs. "But when the pandemic hit, we knew Maui Food Bank would really need extra support, so we directed all of our giving to them. We encourage others to do the same. During these difficult times, aloha shared is aloha multiplied."

"We greatly appreciate Maui Grown Therapies," said Richard Yust, Maui Food Bank's executive director. "We use cash donations like theirs to buy local. It's a double win because buying locally supports our Maui farmers and recipients eat healthier food with higher nutritional value. Demand for food has more than tripled since the pandemic began, and with high unemployment and more financial uncertainty ahead, we expect hunger to increase. The generosity of Maui Grown Therapies patients, employees, and management is so appreciated at this time. We thank them for thinking of us and wish them a happy anniversary."
