All Maui County prosecutor’s office employees tested negative for COVID-19 in a second round of confirmatory testing done Thursday, Prosecuting Attorney Don Guzman said.
He said Saturday that all employees had received their results from the drive-thru testing at Keopuolani Park. The PCR testing Thursday followed rapid antigen testing done Aug. 31 of all 47 employees working in the old courthouse building after an employee there tested positive for COVID-19 the previous week.
An employee who had tested positive in the Aug. 31 testing was released from quarantine Friday after a second PCR test was negative, Guzman said.
He said the office would continue to follow COVID prevention measures recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the state Department of Health, as well as daily sanitation of work stations at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. In addition, employees are required to have temperature checks before entering the building, wear masks inside and practice social distancing. Plexiglas barriers have been set up between desks.
The one employee who was found positive for COVID-19 was asymptomatic and remains in quarantine at the direction of the Department of Health, Guzman said. He said that employee’s case is connected to a household member who tested positive for the virus.
Guzman said department operations will continue after the Labor Day weekend, with some deputies teleworking from home and making court appearances by videoconference. Deputies will physically appear in court when required by rules or directed by judges, Guzman said.
