For the first time since February, the Blood Bank of Hawaii will return to Maui to hold a series of blood drives from Nov. 22 to 24.
Collections will take place at the Cameron Center on the following dates:
• Sunday, Nov. 22, 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Monday, Nov. 23, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Tuesday, Nov. 24, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Drives are subject to change, the Blood Bank said in a news release last week.
The Blood Bank hopes to secure 120 appointments per day of all blood types. The nonprofit said there is an immediate and high need for O positive, O negative and COVID-19 convalescent plasma.
Plasma donors need to provide a lab-confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis in advance and be healthy and symptom-free for 28 days.
The Blood Bank said it has worked closely with Maui County Mayor Michael Victorino and his staff and will follow strict rules recommended by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the state Department of Health to keep donors and staff safe.
Each donation can save up to three lives, the organization said. Healthy donors interested in giving blood on Maui may register at bloodbanktough.org or call (808) 848-4770. An appointment is required, as walk-ins can no longer be accommodated.
